THERMODYN

Thermohaline thresholds and dynamics—THC impacts in a warmer world

MAIN OBJECTIVES: THERMODYN will help define the warm-climate instability of the Atlantic Thermohaline Circulation (THC) and evaluate its relevance for overturning changes predicted for the next century. The project will characterize THC and carbon cycle disturbances over a range of boundary conditions and forcings during past interglacial periods, using reconstructions from key North Atlantic core sites in combination with numerical model simulations. These constraints will help identify potential climatic thresholds triggering thermohaline destabilization and our current proximity to them.
