We use complementary biochemical and biophysical methodology, structural bioinformatics and cellular studies, focusing on the structure, properties and function of phospholipidic membranes and proteins, in particular enzymes of the aromatic amino acid hydroxylase family and their complexes with ligands.

Structural biology

The properties of a protein is determined by its structure. Thus, to better understand the function it is important to know the structure. Biorecognition uses NMR, X-ray crystallography, and molecular modelling to investigate the three-dimensional structure of proteins.

Biophysics

We use a range of techniques when we study protein conformation, stability, interactions etc. The methods presented below are used on a daily basis in the lab.

Cell biology

Cellular distribution of target proteins, the effect of potential pharmacological molecule and the up-take of enzyme bound to nanoparticles are studied using imaging and proteomics techniques in cellular models.

High-throughput screening

High-throughput screening (HTS) is a method widely used in drug development, where liquid-handling robotics is combined with computational tools to test large number of samples for specific properties. We use HTS to find inhibitors and pharmacological chaperones for our proteins.

Computational tools

We use a variety of computational tools in close integration with experimental techniques to understand protein function and behavior.
