It is our ambition to provide the best possible information and counselling service for our students. Our student counsellors are available for our students at the Student Information Centre.

At an appointment with our student advisors you can get help with:

  • General information about our many programs
  • Help to plan your studies within social sciences at UiB
  • Information about exchange opportunities for your program  utvekslingsmuligheter på ditt studieprogram (page in Norwegian)
  • Information about the approval of external studies in Norway and the rest of the world
  • Information about laws and rules of regulation at the University
  • Answers to other questions you wish to discuss with your program’s student advisor


What questions can we not answer?

  • Questions about admissions to programs at other universities in Norway or in the rest of the world. Please contact the university directly where you wish to apply
  • Questions regarding a specific course you are taking. Please contact the lecturer directly
  • Student loan questions. Please contact Lånekassen directly here: Lånekassen.

Student advising for bachelor’s, one-year, and professional degree students

Each program has its own student advisor. Book an appointment with a student advisor directly through our booking calendar here: Bookingkalender. Adisors can only answer questions related to their specific academic program(s). Advising sessions take place the Faculty of Social Sciences building across from the information center (Fosswinckelsgate 6).

Student advising for master’s students

To book an appointment, please contact the student advisor for your program:

Student advising for teacher education program in social studies 

To book an advising session, send an email to studieveileder.sos@uib.no and suggest a time that works for you (Tuesdays are not available). Please specify in your email that you are enrolled in the teacher education program.

Advising sessions take place in the advising room at the Teacher Education Centre, Christies gate 20 (entrance facing Muséplass and the University Museum).

You will receive an Outlook calendar invitation once the appointment has been confirmed.
