We want to help your arrival go smoothly.

    Planning your arrival

There are of course a lot of things to consider when moving abroad for a shorter or longer period of time. We offer you have some tips and advice on our:

    Arriving in Bergen

    Step 1: Arrival

For directions from Flesland Airport or Bergen’s Train Station to Sammen's Housing Reception in the Student Centre, click here for a printable PDF.

    Step 2: Check-in

All students who will be residing in student housing need to check in at Sammen's Housing Reception in the Student Centre (Parkveien 1). The Student Centre is located in the city centre, for directions see the link above in “Step 1: Arrival”.

If you applied for student housing using the housing guarantee code, 1 January is the standard starting date for housing contracts. If you are arriving during the period of your Sammen housing contract:

    • Check the standard opening hours of the Housing Reception on Sammen's website. If you are arriving when Housing Reception is closed, it will be necessary to provide for your own accommodation until you can pick up keys at Housing Reception during opening hours.

    Step 3: Finding your accommodations

After picking up your keys at Sammen's Housing Reception in the city centre, you then can continue on to your accommodations:

The most affordable way to travel from the airport is via public transit through Skyss or Flybussen. Using Flybussen to travel from the airport costs more than using bybanen (Skyss), however the travel time is faster and there is dedicated room for your luggage. Information on using public transit on your first day in Bergen is available in the PDF directions above, for general information about public transportation in Bergen, click here

If you have a lot of luggage or have arrived so late that public transportation is not running, you may wish to get a taxi. Taxis are usually parked outside the airport, or you can call 05501 for Taxi1, 07000 for Bergen taxi or 08000 for Norgestaxi.

    After Arriving

    Confirmation of arrival

If you are an exchange student and need to have a Confirmation of Arrival form or Learning Agreement signed, please visit your Faculty Information Centre

Attending the Welcome Programme provides valuable practical and cultural information; we hope to see you there!

You will receive registration guidelines by email from the International Admission Team by early December. Feel free to begin your registration process as soon as you like, but remember to be mindful of both general and course-specific deadlines.

    Checklist for new students

Please have a look at the checklist for new international students, which is a checklist describing the procedures that are necessary to complete in order to study at UiB. For instance, all new international students with a citizenship from outside the Nordic countries must visit the police after arrival, see steps 6a or 6b according to nationality.

Get a jump-start on making connections by joining our Facebook group, UiB International Students 2017/2018. Please note that our Facebook group is only open to international students enrolled at UiB.

We welcome you to participate in any remaining parts of the Welcome Programme even if you arrive after 4 January.

If you will arrive in town after the Welcome Programme, there are a number of details to attend to:
