Dear all,
We started a scientific writing group at GEO to improve our scientific communication.
EVERYONE is welcome to join, especially young researchers (PhDs and Postdocs). We hope senior staff will encourage their PhDs to participate.
The effort is based on the successful climate snack initiative at the Geophysical Institute http://www.climatesnack.com .

The idea is to improve our scientific writing skills by writing small snacks (short texts of ~200 words), incorporating simple writing techniques that we will discuss at the meetings. The snacks can be about anything, however, it is a good exercise to communicate your science to the general public. The snacks will be read to the group and discussed before a final iterated version is published online at www.climatesnack.com

We’ll meet once a month. The FIRST MEETING will take place on the 5th of November 10-12am in room 2134. Where we’ll explain and discuss the concept of the group in more detail.

If you like to read more before, have a look at http://klimasnakk.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/startadvicenew.pdf

Future correspondents will be done over snack@geo.uib.no. Do SIGN UP for the email list under http://mailman.uib.no/listinfo/snack

We hope that this group will help to improve scientific writing, making it less painful to write papers, AND making it less painful to read scientific literature.

Best regards
