The Department of Social Anthropology is happy to announce the upcoming seminar with Associate Professor Knut Kolnar, Norwegian Business School. The title of the lecture is "Planned Obsolescence. The Hidden Engine of Consumer Society and the Logic of the Garbage Heap".

Planned Obsolescence arose as a reaction to the stock market crash of 1929 followed by an economic depression. Thereafter it became a central business model for “the growth"-society, and an integral part of consumer society’s extensive consumption, by controlling, in various ingenious ways, the life span of its products.
