Modelling the future energy system in Longyearbyen – Hans-Kristian Ringkjøb (GFI)

Main content

PhD-candidate at the Geophysical Institute, Hans-Kristian Ringkjøb, presented some preliminary results of his modelling study on the future energy system in Longyearbyen on the Bergen Energy Lab lunch meeting the 28th of November.

In his work, Hans-Kristian has modelled Longyearbyen’s energy system from today until 2050, with the goal of identifying possible pathways to transition Longyearbyen into a city supplied with renewable energy sources. The results indicate that a combination of solar, wind and energy storage could be an effective solution for Longyearbyen in the future.
