Simulation and discretisation techniques

Solving the equations that govern fluid flow in reservoirs is a big part of what reservoir simulation is about.

Main content

Reservoir simulators are computer software where mathematical models have been coded to give approximate answers about how fluids behave and move under specific conditions. The partial differential equations are discretised and the geology and physical properties of the porous medium and fluids are put together such that the code can use these to solve the necessary equations.
