The Michael Sars Centre is continuously looking for scientific, technical and administrative staff, as well as graduate and undergraduate students. We provide excellent resources and infrastructure including outstanding animal facilities and a very international composition of staff and collaborators worldwide.

  • Postdoctoral Fellow - Hallmarks of thermal adaptation in aquatic chordates

Collaborative partnership between Michael Sars Centre, Bergen, Norway (Lionel A Christiaen) + EMBL Heidelberg, Germany (Michael W Dorrity).

To accelerate understanding of thermal acclimation in aquatic chordates experiencing rapid environmental change, our labs seek a joint postdoctoral fellow to identify molecular and cellular hallmarks of adaptation. The Christiaen and Dorrity labs are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join our team and contribute to this rapidly evolving research area. This position, part of EMBL’s EIPOD program, offers the opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of scientists and gain valuable experience at the interface between quantitative developmental genetics, single-cell genomics, and environmental sciences.

Interested candidates should reach out via email with their CV and a brief statement of research interests (Lionel.Christiaen@uib.no, michael.dorrity@embl.de). Deadline for applications is February 13th 2025.

Why Join Us?

The Michael Sars Centre is an international community of scientists using advanced technologies to study the unique molecular and cellular biology of marine organisms. We aim to establish, strengthen, and leverage local, national, and international networks through specific activities, including collaborative research, joint training, and scientific exchange.

As a UNESCO World Heritage City and a European City of Culture nestled between fjords and mountains, Bergen has the ideal combination of nature, culture and exciting urban life year around. The city is an international centre for aquaculture, shipping, the offshore petroleum industry and subsea technology, and a vibrant hub for marine research. Bergen is located in a typical West Norwegian landscape with high mountains, fjords, bays and thousands of small and large islands and skerries. The rich diversity of animals encountered on the Bergen coast effectively complements the in-house aquaculture facilities, thus broadening the scope of research projects that can be implemented at the Centre.

All jobs are open to competition with competence and motivation as essential criteria.
