News and media monitoring

Information about media monitoring services.

Main content

Do you want to monitor what the media is writing about you or about topics you are interested in?

The University has an agreement with the Retriever media monitoring service. (New supplier as of 1 September 2014)
All UiB units have the option of acceding to the agreement. A separate portal is then created for you that you log onto and where you administer searches, reports and notifications yourself.

To order media monitoring services, follow the regular procurement routines. Contact the person authorised to make procurements for your unit.

The agreement
The framework agreement covers monitoring of online and print newspapers as well as a number of other websites. The agreement also covers monitoring of other print media: Norwegian print newspapers and magazines. The agreement does not cover foreign print media. You can also ask for extra open websites that you want to monitor.

You will receive automatic news alerts by email or SMS. This means that both management and individuals can administer the service and determine how closely they want to monitor the news. The media clips can also be put in a newsfeed or list of news, on your own uib.no page.

Only clips or links to online media can be put on external websites. We do not have the rights to publish pdf copies of print media clips externally.

Retriever also operates the Atext media archive, which all UiB employees have free access to. Atext will therefore be integrated in the media monitoring. This expands your opportunities for historical searchers and statistics about units and academic communities.

Costs
The price for your own portal with your own searches is NOK 12,000 a year per unit. This includes free support and training. This price includes two RSS feeds (newsfeeds). Additional RSS feeds may be added at a cost of NOK 100 per RSS feed per month.

Contact person in the unit

Each unit must designate a contact person (preferably its online editor) to administer the system and keep in touch with the supplier.

Support
All support, such as to create search profiles or news alerts, is provided by Retriever.
