Main content

Børge Ousland is a Norwegian polar explorer, adventurer, and author, known for his many groundbreaking expeditions across both poles. Extreme adventures are usually achieved against all odds – you must oversee whatever challenge you come across, be it harsh weather, injury, or lack of food. In his talk “Against all odds – across the north pole in the dark,” Børge Ousland gives you insight into what can be learned by mastering such extreme situations. Through pictures and films from his expeditions, he also gives you a taste of what fantastic landscapes our poles have to offer.

More information can be found on Ouslands' webpage.

Sigrid Lien is a professor in the history of arts at UiB, history and theory of photography being her primary specialty. During later years, also Sigrid’s’ eyes has been looking towards the Arctic region, with projects as “Negotiating History: Photography in Sami Culture” and “Visions of the Arctic”. She will give us the talk "Polar masculinity visualized: Some historical examples".

For more information about Lien and her projects, see her UiB personal webpage

Thursday 31st of March 14.15 - 16.00, "Egget" at Studentsenteret. Both talks will be given in English. See you there!
