IPY-Thorpex is a Norwegian project within the International Polar Year. The project is part of a broad international cooperation initiated by World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). The goal of this project is to improve accuracy of weather forecasts in the northern parts of the world. Different field campaigns, such as airplanes equipped with meteorological instruments measuring important parameters will provide thorough knowledge about storms in polar areas.
