UiB Global's SPIRE-funds are intended to promote international collaboration in the field of development research at the University of Bergen.
Main content
Nilsen has been awarded the funds in order to develop new research in collaboration with colleagues from Brazil, India, China and South Africa. The collaboration will focus on the relationship between economic growth, urban poverty, and political mobilization in the BRICS-countries, with a particular focus on the emergence of new working classes in these countries - a topic which Nilsen has addressed in a recent essay published on the web-pages of Sosiologen.no.
Nilsen has also previously been awarded SPIRE-funds, the results of which are currently available in the form of the book New Subaltern Politics: Reconceptualizing Hegemony and Resistance in the Global South (Oxford University Press).
