Main content
The next edition of the SV’s Supervision Forum will take place Wednesday 3rd of December 14:00 - 15:30. It is hosted by the Department of Geography and will continue the theme of supervision challenges and opportunities for PhD candidates who are a part of larger research projects and research teams.
PhD supervision in teams and projects
What are the challenges and opportunities of PhD candidates being part of projects and research-teams? Building from the Supervisor forum in June, which focused on supervision of project-funded PhD candidates, this seminar will focus on the tensions and shared interests between the individual PhD project and the project as a whole. For the PhD candidate, what are the advantages and disadvantages of being part of a project and a project team? How can the supervisor make sure that the candidates develop the autonomy and independence necessary to complete a PhD, and at the same time make sure that the project delivers on its objectives? How are the goals of the project balanced with the goals of the dissertation?
Join us for a discussion on PhD supervision in teams and projects, featuring two professors with extensive experience in leading diverse research projects and groups:
- Håvard Haarstad, is a professor of Human Geography and his research focus is social change towards sustainability, particularly in relation to climate. He is the director of Center for Climate and Energy Transformation (CET)
- Birgit Kopainsky, is a professor at the Department of Geography and her research explores the role that system dynamics analysis and modeling techniques play in facilitating transformation processes in social-ecological systems.
