Fieldwork, research cruises and group trips at BIO
Main content
Employees and students at BIO participating in group trips, research cruises or fieldwork at BIO must follow the University of Bergen’s (UiB) Guidelines for health, safety and environment at fieldwork, research cruises and group trips — Regelsamlingen documentation
Before departure, such trips must be registered using the designated form Fieldcard and travel registration BIO (Page 1 of 8) so that the BIO management can keep track of planned and ongoing travel activities.
Employees must use the self-service portal to enter necessary information about their next of kin.
Students participating in such activities will receive a separate form from the study section prior to the trip.
More information about planning, risk assessment, and emergency preparedness related to such activities is available on UiB’s HSE portal: HSE at Fieldwork, Research cruises and Group trips | The HSE-gateway | UiB
GROUP TRIPS
Employees participating in group travel must register the trip using the travel registration form, Fieldcard and travel registration BIO (Page 1 of 8)
Group travel is defined as any type of domestic or international travel (excluding expeditions and fieldwork) involving either:

FIELD WORK
All participants in fieldwork must use the form Fieldcard and travel registration BIO (Page 1 of 8) to register their trip and follow the UiBs Guidelines for health, safety and environment at fieldwork, research cruises and group trips — Regelsamlingen documentation.
Prior to departure, a risk assessment must be conducted for the planned activity, and any necessary measures to reduce risk must be implemented. A local emergency response plan and notification procedures must also be established.
Use a Safe Job Analysis (SJA) if unexpected tasks arise on-site that may involve increased risk or require special safety considerations. HSE risk assessment and safe job analysis (SJA) | The HSE-gateway | UiB
