European Electricity Market Design for the Future
Main content
The low-carbon society requires major changes in the energy system, including an increase in distributed and intermittent energy sources, as well as changes in electricity consumption, for instance due to electrification. The recent energy crisis in Europe, where we saw very high electricity prices due to scarcity in the supply of gas, has also highlighted potential weaknesses of the current energy market. This has prompted proposals from the EU for changes in the market design.
In this seminar, we discussed the need for changes in the design of short- and long-term markets for electricity in Europe with a particular emphasis on discussing and evaluating the EU proposals.
