Proposal writing for dummies
Being a talented, ground-breaking researcher is not enough if you want to win research grants. You must also master the curious art of proposal writing, that is unlike other academic genres you may be familiar with. We will guide you to the first steps of winning the evaluators over and getting funding for your project.

Course description
This course is designed to equip young UiB researchers with the skills necessary to write effective and compelling research proposals, for funding agencies such as the Norwegian Research Council and the EU. The course will provide you with tips for writing research proposals, as well as hands-on training. An experienced UiB researcher will share personal reflections around the proposal writing process and coordinations of collaborative projects, as well as tips that he wished he knew when he was a young researcher himself.

- Introduction to Proposal Writing: How to get started and plan a research grant proposal, and how to find relevant calls.
- Structuring Your Proposal: Key components of a research proposal; excellence, impact and implementation.
- Writing Skills: Tips on how to communicate with the evaluators and how to "sell" your proposal.
- Group discussion: Addressing the challenges in proposal writing with your peers.
- Advice from an experienced grant holder: A UiB researcher shares his personal experiences with proposal writing and the things he wished he knew when he was in the earlier stages of his career.
Target group
This course is ideal for PhD students, postdocs and researchers at the University of Bergen who want to learn and to improve their proposal writing skills. No prior experience in proposal writing is required.
