Abstract: It is often claimed that open borders and welfare states are incompatible with each other. But is this true? And what presuppositions does the claim rest upon? Critical Theory Bergen welcomes Melina Duarte (UiT) for a talk and discussion (via Zoom; Bergen participants meet in room 129). The talk will take its cue from Duarte's 2018 paper "Open Borders and Welfare States: Can’t They Really Get Along? (external link)", which still is of great actuality. Participants are welcome to read the paper in advance of the meeting, but it is also possible to attend without having read it.
