Our collections of amphibians and reptiles are relatively limited in size: in total about 1200 specimens. Much of this material are whole animals preserved in ethanol. Even if the collection contains numerous species from exotic parts of the world, our main targets today are the limited number of species found in Norwegian fauna.

Today there is no active collection of herptiles at the University Museum and new material are mainly animals that have been found dead for various reasons.
