On Thursday 20 - Friday 21 November 2025 the Norwegian Institute at Athens hosted the first work meeting between the Museum of Cultural History / University of Oslo (KHM) and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture / Directorate of Archaeological Museums, Exhibitions and Educational Programmes, within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year by the Director General of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage - Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Olympia Vikatou and the Director of KHM Aud Tønnessen. 9 delegates from KHM including former and current leadership along with 17 participants from several Ministry ephorates and museums in Greece, also the Numismatic Museum, the Museum of Byzantine Culture and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki embarked on a two-day dialogue to discuss the next steps of the MoU, which will take the form of diverse public events spread throughout 2026-2027. The MoU focuses on the research of the Vikings and the Byzantines during a period of five centuries (8th-13th CE) and on the study and exchange of good museum and heritage practices. On behalf of the Norwegian Institute at Athens - University of Bergen I would like to thank the Directors of both institutions and all academics and professionals for their great input, dedication and visionary ideas! Delia Tzortzaki, Leader of the NIA in Greece.
