Main content

Rafael's PhD project is linked to the research project "CityFreight: Freight logistics in sustainable cities". The project is led by the Norwegian Schools of Economics (NHH), and the primary objective is to provide public authorities with a toolbox for how to work towards a more energy-efficient and sustainable urban freight transport, especially in topologically complex cities such as Bergen. More specifically, Rafael examines how and to what extent public authorities can and should take an active role in steering private freight transport of goods, services and waste in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable direction.

The research group for Natural Resource Law, Environmental Law and Development Law's role in the project is to help analyze the legal framework for public authorities' involvement in private freight transport. An important part of the project is to get an overview of the existing legal frameworks, identify possible tensions between these and proposed logistics solutions, and propose changes that may help mitigate the tensions.
