Friday, August 13 - Meet the Faculty of Social Sciences

On Friday, August 13 at 13:15 you are invited to meet staff from the Faculty of Social Sciences for orientation on courses and practical information.

Due to the unsure pandemic situation and national restrictions we most probably cannot meet in person, but we very much want you to feel welcome and comfortable so that you can meet the semester ahead as well prepared as possible. 

You will be invited to a zoom meeting from the learning portal Mitt UiB. To be able to attend this, it is important that you create your UiB user account. You will receive information about this by email during the summer. For those of you who may not be able to attend, the meeting will be streamed and presented online.

→  See this checklist for important dates and deadlines

→  Remember that semester registration deadline is the 1st of September

→  Make sure exam dates and lecture times of your courses do not overlap

→  You can apply for special arrangements for the exams/assessments if, due to illness, injury or disability, you have difficulty completing an assessment in the ordinary manner. The application deadline is the 1st of September. It is not possible to have individual or special exam arrangements otherwise

Mentors' week

Monday, August 16

17:00: Meet your mentor group!

This is an opportunity for the student groups to gather and get to know one another before the organised activities of the evening! This event is a nice start to the week, and we encourage you all to participate so that you can get to know your fellow students.

20:00 – 00:00: Ricks

In the evening, the first party of the semester will be held at Ricks. Here most of the rooms will be open and thus everything from dancing to karaoke will be on offer. 

20:00 – 00:00: Gathering at the faculty building.

If you would rather have a more relaxed evening, you can go to the faculty building where you can meet to play boardgames or watch movies. This is a lovely opportunity to have some fun and casually get to know your student group.

Tuesday, August 17

17:00: Mentor group gathering.  

This is an opportunity for the student groups to gather and get to know one another before the organised activities of the evening! We encourage you all to go to this so that you can get to know your fellow students.

21.00 – 00.00: Quiz at Diskuterbar

This year’s first quiz will be held at the student bar! This will be a relaxed and entertaining evening for you and your friends. The quiz is created and led by the volunteers at Diskuterbar and will cover several exciting topics.

20:00 – 00:00: Clubbing or gathering at the faculty building.

During the evening you can go clubbing. If you would rather have a more relaxed evening, then you can go to the faculty building where you can meet to play boardgames or watch movies. This is a lovely opportunity to have some fun and casually get to know your student group. 

Wednesday, August 18

17:00 – 20:00: Scavenger hunt/Rebus run (Rebusløp)

The hunt is a tradition and a staple for the student orientation week. The scavenger hunt will be held around Høyden (around campus) and the city centre. It contains posts where you will join different activities to gather points. We encourage that each group decide on a theme and dress up accordingly.

20:00 – 00:00: Ricks

On Wednesday we return to Ricks, and here there will be partying and all-around good vibes all night! 

20:00 – 00:00: Gathering at the faculty building.

If you would rather have a more relaxed evening, you can go to the faculty building where you can meet to play boardgames or watch movies. This is a lovely opportunity to have some fun and casually get to know your student group. 

14:00 – 16:00: ONLINE SOCIALS 

Thursday, August 19

10:00 – 12:00: Bergen Aquarium

If you would like to experience more of the city, we are also planning visits to one of Bergen’s biggest attractions – one being the Bergen Aquarium! This is one of Norway’s largest aquariums and it has several exciting things on offer. We will cover 50% of your ticket!

12:00 – 14:00: KODE

After the aquarium we will make our way to the KODE museum. The museum offers a great variety in their exhibitions, which are spread throughout four art museum buildings and three composer-homes. Among other things the exhibition contains artwork, craftsmanship, design, and music. We will cover 50% of your ticket!

14:00 – 18:00: Summer Olympics in Nordnes park.

At this event you can participate in different games such as ‘kubb’, potato races, sack races etc. Points and prizes will be awarded to the winning team!

20:00 – 00:00: Clubbing or gathering at the faculty building.

During the evening you are welcome to come clubbing. If you would rather have a more relaxed evening, you can go to the faculty building where you can meet to play boardgames or watch movies. This is a lovely opportunity to have some fun and casually get to know your student group.

AFTERNOON: ONLINE SOCIALS

Friday, August 20

16:00 – 20:00: Bar hopping

On Friday we are finally going bar hopping! We will visit different bars in Bergen, where there will be different activities. Groups can gather points and a winner will be announced! We also encourage the mentor groups to dress up and wear costumes to add even more fun to the festivities!  

21:00 – 00:00: Clubbing at Kvarteret

After the bar hopping, we will head over to Kvarteret! This is sure to be a good time! Kvarteret is the student hub in Bergen and offers several different rooms with good music in different genres as well as student friendly prices. We encourage you to try out any of Kvarterets events during the semester.

Saturday, August 21

12:00 – 20:30: Socials with you student group

Saturday is the last day of student orientation week, and during the daytime you will have the opportunity to spend some quality time with your student group. You can arrange several different things, such as going out for dinner or arrange a potluck at someone’s place. Bergen has several parks which also lend themselves for fun activities if the weather is nice!
