Collections

Samples used in biodiversity research, particularly at Bergen Museum and Department of Biology at UiB, are curated and archived for future re-examination. The scientific collections constitute a core facility at the museum and research associated with the collections is our main activity.

Main content

The Natural History Collections consist of collections and staff in botany, geology and zoology. The collections are housed in Muséplass 3 (dry collections and type collections), The Science Building at Allegt. 41 (herbarium), and at Arcus at Midttun (ethanol collection). The Natural History Collections also include live collections of plants at the museum garden, The Botanical Garden and The Arboretum.

Zoological collections

Bergen Museum is keeping comprehensive zoological collections and archives. These are accessible for research purposes and are extensively used by an international community of researchers in fields such as biosystematics, taxonomy, evolutionary biology, palaeoecology, archaeology. ...

Botanical collections

Within the field of botany extensive scientific collections are held. The collections consist of Herbarium BG and paleobotanical collections. The Living Collections are located in the Museum Garden and in the Arboretum and Botanical Garden at Milde. The collections are accessible for research purposes.
