Momentum – Career Development Program for Young Researchers

Excellent researchers know how to negotiate the competing demands of researching, publishing, teaching and administration whilst cultivating academic and commercial networks and developing a strong international profile.

The UiB Career Development Program is a one year programme designed to give talented postdocs and associate professors the opportunity to acquire and strengthen professional skills whilst offering a forum to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that working in academia present.

As a member of our first interdisciplinary cohort, you will receive skills training on a range of subjects designed to help you successfully transition from postdoc to PI, including:

  • Planning an academic career
  • Project management
  • Building your international network
  • Doing interdisciplinary research
  • Competing at international level
  • Developing partnerships & building research consortia
  • Strategic thinking
  • Innovation

All participants will be supported by an international mentor.

Who can apply?

The programme is designed for early career researchers embarking on an academic career at a research university.

Postdocs and associate professors who are employees at UiB are invited to apply. The candidate must be under the age of 40 or have being awarded the PhD degree less than 5 years ago, not including statutory leaves. Employees on a temporary contract must have a minimum of one year remaining on their contract.

Contributors

The programme has been designed in cooperation with Mobilize Strategy Consulting.

Are Hallan Syversen is a partner at Mobilize and Director for their Norwegian office. He has worked as a consultant within the field of leadership and strategic interaction in partnership with academic institutions as well as organizational and leadership development. Previously, he has worked with the AFF Solstrand program for young leaders.   

Katrine Borgen is a management consultant at Mobilize. Her main foci are the university and health sectors and executive programs. She has previously worked at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and held a Marie Curie fellowship in the Netherlands.

Kristof Vlaeminck is the manager of the UiB Brussel office. He works to increase UiBs participation in the EU framework program.
