Knut Erik Emberland is an Associate Professor at the University of Bergen, Department of Global Public Health and Primary Care (IGS), with a clinical and academic background in general practice and infectious disease research. He completed his medical degree with a research track at the University of Oslo in 2007. After moving to Bergen in 2009, he completed his PhD at the University of Bergen in 2021 with a thesis on gastroenteritis in Norwegian primary care.
As part of his full-time position at IGS, he currently leads the Coordinator Team at PraksisNett, a national research network facilitating clinical studies in primary care. His research interests include gastrointestinal infections, antibiotic use, post-infectious complications, and the link between sleep disorders and infection risk. He teaches medical students and physicians specializing in general practice and supervises master and PhD candidates.
Motivated to strengthen clinical research in primary care, he aims to bridge the gap between research in primary and specialist healthcare and support the development of high-quality, practice-based clinical studies.
