BIO300 - 2012 - Introduction
Hovedinnhold
In the video of her introduction, Pittman explains that BIO300 is obligatory for all master students at BIO. The course has been running in one form or another for a couple of decades. It has always included a focus on effective science communication. However, beginning in 2011, Pittman began a more concrete collaboration of Science and the Arts. The 2011 BIO300 students had the opportunity to work with Norway’s premier modern dance company, Carte Blanche. Read more.
Four of this year’s BIO300 groups were paired with local artists in a continuation of this Science and the Arts initiative. The artists provided input and ideas on “how to tell the story”. There were only 2 guidelines that the students had to follow:
Get the message across
Keep to the time limit (10 min.)
Pittman herself shared some tips she picked up autumn 2012 at the Center for Communication Science with the 5 remaining student groups.
The research projects are developed in cooperation with Bergen Municipality’s Water and Water Treatment Department, and address issues of water quality. The results are actually used as part of the Departments survey efforts.
