Main content

The seminar will be held in English.

The Wittgenstein Archives (http://wab.uib.no/) is a UiB research infrastructure founded in 1990, located in the Department of Philosophy since 2010. Its object has been the writings (the "Nachlass", consisting of approx. 20,000 pages) of philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), its objective to make these writings available digitally. In this seminar we wish to present WAB and its work, with a two-pronged view to i) disseminate our work in the DH network locally and ii) gain feedback on the functionality and usability of our resources and guage the need for user instruction material. Following upon a historical presentation, by former director Claus Huitfeldt and current director Alois Pichler, we will give a brief overview of our resources before moving on to demonstrations and some user tasks (bring your own laptop if possible!) for some of these resources. These are:

Wittgenstein Source (complete facsimile and transcribed edition of the Nachlass material): http://wittgensteinsource.org/

"IDP" (interactive dynamic presentation) of WS material: http://wab.uib.no/transform/wab.php

Wittgenstein Ontology Explorer (semantic faceted browser): http://wab.uib.no/sfb/

WITTFind (search platform): http://wittfind.cis.uni-muenchen.de/
