UiB guesthouses

35 rooms, studios and flats available to rent for guest researchers, new international employees and other guests of UiB.

Guesthouses are primarily rented through UiB faculties and departments for their guests and new international employees.
All bookings must come through the UiB host unit.
No deposit is required for housing rental. Guest researchers and new international employees are considered guests/employees of the UiB department/UiB unit, and upon reservation guarantee for rent and for possible damage to the housing. 
Prices quoted are per month, and rental periods are from 3 weeks to 6 months, booking up to 6 months prior to  arrival date.
No pets allowed.

Finding and applying for a guesthouse

Search for availability in the electronic booking calendar.

Send requests for rental using the Electronic Application form.

Rental payment can be made using the card terminal at the International Centre, by bank transfer or by internal invoice to UiB unit.

Guidelines for renting a guest house at UiB

PURPOSE

Guest housing is provided as a short-term offer for visiting researchers working at UiB, as well as a transitional arrangement for international new employees. (hereby referred to as guests) The on-campus accommodations are easily accessible. The price of accommodation in UiB guest housing is normally lower than the private rental market or hotel.

ELIGIBILITY

Guest researchers and newly appointed international employees (Guests) are eligible to rent housing. If there is free capacity, other guests at UiB may also apply.

LEASE

  • Guests can rent accommodation for a period of 3 weeks to 6 months (full month rent).
  • At free capacity other guests at UiB can rent housing for a period of 3 weeks to 1 month (full month rent).
  • Rooms that are available for shorter periods, and at short notice can be rented out with rates for a minimum of 1 week (from 01.01.2024 daily rate NOK 600,- for single and NOK 800,- for double). Short –term rental only applies to rooms in shared housing at Allègaten 19 and Sydneshaugen 14
  • Rental period counts from day of moving in.

THE HOUSING

  • The housing is functionally furnished, and kitchens equipped. All housing has access to laundry facilities.
  • Duvets and pillows are supplied, but the guest or host must supply their own duvet-, pillow covers, sheets and towels. For hygienic reasons, proper bed linen must be always used.
  • The rooms in shared housing are for a single person, with exception of Allègaten 19, room 305 that is a double room. The apartments vary in size, and number of guests must be confirmed.
  • The housing must always be kept in such an order that cleaners have access to perform weekly cleaning. This also applies to common areas.
  • Rooms and apartments are only for confirmed guests. Due to safety and liability concerns we do not allow our guests to bring inn overnight guests.
  • It is not permitted to sublet UiB housing.
  • No pets allowed.

RESERVATIONS AND CANCELLATIONS

  • To book accommodation the electronic application form must be used. This is only available thru UiB network or VPN.
  • Booking is done by the department / UiB unit to which the guest is affiliated.
  • Bookings can be made up to 6 months in advance of arrival date.
  • Deadline for cancellation is 4 weeks before arrival. Later cancellation means that full rent must be paid.
  • Leases can be terminated with a 4-week notice period.
  • Billing information must be provided upon booking.

DEPOSIT AND BILLING

  • No deposit is required for housing rental. Guest researchers and new international employees are considered guests / employees of the department / UiB unit, and upon reservation guarantee for rent and for possible damage to the housing.
  • Rent is invoiced prior to, or upon arrival.
  • For longer leases the rent is invoiced monthly.
  • Rent can be paid by the guest directly at International Centre by credit card, by bank transfer, or by the UiB unit by internal invoice, needing unit number and subproject for invoicing.
  • Billing information must be provided upon booking.

DELIVERY AND SUBMISSION OF KEYS

  • Pick-up and drop-off for keys at the International Centre, Student Centre, Parkveien 1, 2nd floor.
  • Opening hours are Monday - Friday 11:00 - 14.00.
  • Other arrangements can be made in advance.
  • Upon departure, leave key card in the room.
  • Check-in 15:00; checkout 10:00.

ISSUES AND MISSING INVENTORY

All housing is cleared and washed before arrival of new guest. Any issues, broken or missing inventory or equipment, needs to be reported to Doreen Ryland at housing@uib.no or by phone 55 58 20 28.

Presentation of Guesthouses

UiB Housing manages 22 bedsits and 13 apartments available for rent.
Apartments are private units with own kitchen, bathroom, and appliances include washing machine. 
Rooms all have private bath with shower, sharing kitchen, common facilities, and laundry facilities.
All housing is functionally furnished including kitchenware and appliances.

Allegaten 19/21 - 17 single rooms for 1 person, 1 double room for 2 people. Beds 90*200 in single rooms. 3 floors with shared kitchen on each floor.

Sydneshaugen 4, 8, 12, 14 - 15 Fully furnished flats, studios, and rooms with shared kitchen/common room. For long-term, 1 month minimum rental.

3 single rooms for 1 person on 2nd floor (bed 90*200)
1 single room for 1 person on 3rd floor. Large attic room with sloping ceiling (seng 90*200)

Villaveien 9 - 2 1-bedroom apartment for 2 people (bed 160*200). For long-term, 1 month minimum rental.
The villas main floor is used for formal events, and this can occasionally cause noise.

Practical information when renting UiB housing

Due to safety and liability concerns we do not allow our guests to bring inn overnight guests. 

No pets allowed.

Keys

  • Collect and drop-off for keys at the International Centre, Parkveien 1, 2. Floor
  • Opening hours Monday-Friday 11.00-14.00
  • For guest arrival outside opening hours, keys must be collected in advance, or other arrangements must be made.
  • Check-in 15:00. Checkout 10:00. 

Mail

Remember to always mark the mailbox clearly with your name. 

Rent and Invoicing

  • Rent is quoted per month. Arrival date is monthly rent date. 
  • The rent is invoiced in advance monthly.
  • The rent includes Wi-Fi, utilities, common costs and general weekly.
  • Payment by card at cardterminal at the International Centre, Parkveien 1, or by internal invoice to UiB unit. For invoicing to home institute/university, full address, contact information, references must be given prior to arrival. 
  • Deadline for cancellation no later than 4 weeks before arrival date. Cancellation fee will apply for later cancellations.

Linens

  • All guests must bring own bed linens (duvet- and pillow cover, sheets) and towels. (Some departments may have this for their guests).
  • All rooms have duvets and pillows. (140*200 cm and 50*70cm)
  • Proper bed linens must be used at all times.
  • Quilt/duvet- and pillow covers, sheets, and towels can be purchased at most home decor stores such as Bergen Storsenter or Sparkjøp, Jysk, Princess, Ikea

Furnishing and equipment

  • The guest houses have basic furnishing and standard kitchen equipment, including appliances and kitchenware.        

Parking

  • All inner-city parking is regulated by the Bergen municipality. More information on Bergen Kommune's webpages 

Issues and missing inventory

  • All residences are cleared and washed before rental. Any issues, broken or missing inventory or equipment, needs to be reported to Doreen Ryland at housing@uib.no or phone 55 58 20 28.

Leaving UiB housing

Make sure you have all your personal belongings, and do not leave food items in the kitchen. 

Leave the keycard on the desk/table.
