USO Spring Concert
The University Symphony Orchestra invites you to a concert in Nykirken with romantic gems on the programme.
Main content
- Felix Mendelssohn, Bartholdy Overture to "The Hebrides" op.26
- Robert Schumann, Piano Concerto in A minor, op.54
- Franz Schubert, Overture to "Rosamunde" ("Die Zauberharfe")
- Georges Bizet, L’Arlésienne Suite no. 2
Romanticism is characterized by an exploration of how emotions, moods and nature can be portrayed musically, and the pieces on the programme are well-known and varied examples, from Mendelssohn's tone poem depicting his encounter with the sea and nature of the Hebrides, to Bizet's Provence-inspired incidental music for the theatre.
The main work this evening is Schumann's beautiful piano concerto in A minor. Schumann's wife Clara premiered the concert, which is a great tribute to love and a musical delight. It probably served as inspiration for Grieg's A minor concerto, and there are many recordings of the two concertos together. Our soloist is Enxhi Vogli Fluge. Conductor is Helge Haukås.
USO consists of employees and students at the HEI institutions in Bergen, and of other amateur musicians who want to play symphonic music.
Tickets at the door: NOK 250 / 150
