The algae collection is estimated to contain between 10 000 and 15 000 specimens of mainly green, brown, red and golden algae. Most of the these are macroalgae in the form of pressed and dried herbarium specimens, but some are slides of microalgae. The geographical focus of the collection is on Norway and important collectors are P. Boye (macroalgae), E. Jørgensen (planktonic algae) and P. Svendsen. The algal herbarium has not yet been digitized.
