Main content

The mammal collection consists of ca. 2900 objects preserved in ethanol and 2100 skins. In total, about 220 species are represented, most of which come from Norwegian/Nordic fauna.

A significant part of the collection originates from special investigations of taxonomic and biogeographic conditions among small mammals (especially rodents and shrews). There is also a noteworthy collection of about 300 whale foetuses (preserved in ethanol).

There is little active collecting activity of mammals at our museum today and new material is mainly animals that have accidentally died for various reasons.
