Today UiB’s Climate and energy transition strategy invited to a cross-disciplinary breakfast seminar on sustainable area management.

The Breakfast seminar gave a cross-disciplinary approach to sustainable area management, where the topic was addressed from three different perspectives and subject matter experts presented some of the challenges and opportunities they experience within their areas of expertics.
Professor Ignacio Herrera Anchustegui, UiB, Faculty of Law, talked about legal challenges and policy in relation to offshore wind energy, about the role of marine/maritime spatial planning and how sea conservation and sustainability is becoming a more prevalent topic in his field of work.
Researcher Marit Ruge Bjærke, UiB, Faculty of Humanities, presented their Gardening the Globe research project. This is a four-year, interdisciplinary research project that examines historical processes through which nature has been conquered, controlled and commodified in Scandinavia from the mid-18th century to the present. The project will investigate cases related to three themes: 1) processes of moving animals, plants and minerals; 2) practices of eradicating organisms; and 3) the human production of landscapes.
Associate Professor Joachim Paul Töpper, UiB, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, presented his work on the EcoMap project and species distribution modelling. Modelling ecological state and condition maps to support knowledge-based decision-making in area management and spatial planning is becoming increasingly important and there are still many questions to be answered.
