Gretchen Bauer is professor of political science and international relations at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE, USA, where she teaches African politics, African politics and African literature, African women in politics, and gender and politics. Her current research focuses on women's political leadership in Africa. Professor Bauer has been a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Public Policy Research in Windhoek, Namibia (2002) and at the University of Botswana in Gaborone, Botswana (2009) and a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Ghana, Legon, in Accra, Ghana (2016).

She is the co-editor of Women in African Parliaments (2006, Lynne Rienner), Women in Executive Power: A Global Overview (2011, Routledge) and Gender and the Judiciary in Africa: From Obscurity to Parity? (2016, Routledge) as well as being the author of other books and scholarly journal articles.
