Trial lecture: Ruben Berge Mathisen
On 2 March Ruben Berge Mathisen will give his trial lecture for the degree of PhD at UiB
Main content
Given topic:
"The role of organized interest in politics"
Motivation for the given topic:
"There is a long tradition of research on the role of organized groups – variously known as “interest groups,” “pressure groups,” and “organized interests” – in shaping the distribution of power and character of policy outcomes in affluent democracies. This lecture provides an opportunity to link this longstanding research tradition to recent work on political inequality that focuses on the congruence of citizen opinions and public policy. What conclusions does a focus on organized groups – as lobbying and advocacy organizations as well as well-resourced players in the electoral arena – add or alter relative to opinion-oriented work? In answering this question, the focus should be on the two cases at the heart of the lecturers’ research agenda: Norway and the United States."
The opponents will participate on Zoom Webinar. It is possible to attend the trial lecture digitally by following this link: Zoom webinar (Passcode: hC8DXs8u)
