As a student in the Politics and Governance of Global Challenges (GLGOV) program at the Department of Government, you have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at universities around the world. During your exchange, you can take 30 ECTS master’s-level courses within your field of interest.

A semester abroad can provide valuable new perspectives for your master’s thesis and academic development:

  • Deepen your theoretical and empirical knowledge by taking courses not offered at UiB.
  • Explore global challenges in a different geographical context, gaining unique insights.
  • Broaden your academic network and experience diverse teaching approaches.

UiB offers a wide range of exchange agreements, and you are free to choose among them. However, as part of GLGOV and our collaborative partner universities, we have selected a shortlist that we believe will offer relevant courses in sustainability, global challenges, migration, climate etc. (see UTFORSK partners and recommended agreements below).

If you are considering an exchange semester, make sure to familiarize yourself with the deadlines in advance, go to orientation meetings, talk to fellow students, and read student reports.

UTFORSK partners

There are three dedicated exchange spots per year for GlGOV students to spend a semester in Cape Town, Sao Paulo, Seattle or Toronto. These exchange agreements are part of the UTFORSK project "A global classroom for global challenges".

The advantage of taking one of the UTFORSK spots will be a very close collaboration between our program and the partners’ teaching curricula on global challenges with focus on i.e. climate change, migration and citizenship, or indigenous rights in governance and policymaking. The project budget also involves travel grants.
