Abstract

Medical data is increasingly complex, yet clinicians must make critical decisions quickly and confidently. This triallecture explores how visualization bridges the gap between raw medical data and clinical insight, spanning current research interests and future ambitions.

The first part uses cardiovascular disease as a case study, demonstrating how interactive 3D visualization techniques enable more efficient and accurate diagnosis. The discussion extends to artificial intelligence integration, introducing the "human-in-the-loop" paradigm where visualization enables clinicians to trust, validate, and refine algorithmic predictions. Visual storytelling approaches are examined to show how visualization communicates patient trajectories and disease progression.

The second part outlines future research directions across four pillars: next-generation medical rendering leveraging real-time ray tracing and neural approaches; intelligent visual storytelling that transforms patient histories into comprehensive narratives; visual analytics for building trustworthy medical AI; and clinical deployment pipelines that translate research prototypes into production systems used in daily practice, offering opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.
