Main content

This event is organized by the project Managing Ethical Norwegian Seascape Activities (MENSA), hosted at the University of Bergen (UiB) SVT, with support from UiB Ocean and in partnership with USF Verftet.

The MENSA project (2020-2025), funded by the Research Council of Norway, is capturing what the sea means to Norwegians. By making Norwegian ocean values explicit, MENSA aims to reconcile value trade-offs toward more sustainable development and ethical ocean governance.

Come see the stunning visual imagery and poetic text of what the sea means to diverse Norwegians and reflect on your own values of the sea!

Immerse yourself in the beauty and power of the ocean, the relationships that Norwegians have with it, and its symbolism for Norwegian society.

Enter the MENSA Norwegian seascapes contest: deadline is 8 May 2025!
