AI Workshop: Tools for Literature Discovery and Research Field Exploration

Do the tools work as well as they promise? What are the drawbacks? And what should you be mindful of when using such tools?

Main content

About the workshop

There are numerous generative AI tools specifically developed for academic studies and research as well as AI-tools integrated in old-school software  and tools. These AI tools can assist you in finding literature, understanding texts, writing, correcting grammar, and translating between languages.

But do these tools work as well as they promise? What are the drawbacks? And what should you be mindful of when using such tools, or generative AI in general?

In this workshop, you will get an overview of some available tools, what to consider before using them, and the opportunity to discuss which tasks are safely outsourced to AI and for which tasks you need full control of. We will look into examples with:

  • Using AI tools to design search strings (cf. coding)
  • How AI is integrated into:
    • Google Scholar (Scholar Labs),
    • Web of Science
    • ProQuest databases
