How to use Oria

Instructions on how you can use Oria for searching and requesting documents

Main content

Oria is a search engine that you can use to find printed and electronic resources
at the University Library, e.g. books, eBooks, articles, journals, encyclopedias,
PhD theses, music and films. In addition, you can search for documents at other
university and subject libraries in Norway.

This page contains short instructions on Oria's features.

Sign in

It is useful to sign in to Oria for many reasons, particularly for keeping track of your loans, and to request books and articles from the library.
Students and employees at the University of Bergen can sign in via Feide (UiB username and password); employees at Helse Bergen choose «Username and password» to sign in (User ID is usually your library card number).

Managing My Account

In «My Account» you'll find an overview of your loans and requests and have the
option to renew your loans.

Here is a tutorial on how to use My Account (external video).

Advanced search; limit and save search results

Advanced search gives you the option of tailoring the search. You can use one or more search terms, or use search techniques such as truncation, synonyms and combining search terms.

You can further limit your search by choosing which type of
resource you want to be displayed, a certain time range, language or
library.

You can save and administer your search results in Oria, and you can save and send individual references, e.g. to EndNote.

Requesting documents

Waiting list, ordering, purchasing suggestions

If the material you need is on loan, you can request the item
in Oria, which will place you on a waiting list. You will be notified via
SMS and/or email when the item is ready for pickup at your library.

Here is a tutorial on how to request books (external video).

If you are interested in a book, journal article or other item that the University Library does not have, you can request the item in Oria.

Here is a tutorial on how to request books from other libraries (external video).

You can also send a purchase suggestion to the library if you think the item should
be part of our collection.

Find databases

Click «Databases» in the Oria search box or in the Oria top menu
to find links to relevant databases in your subject. You can limit the list of databases
to a subject or a specific database. When you are searching in databases it is advisable to use the database's own help pages
on how to search.

Electronic literature

Oria shows you where there is access to e-books, journal articles and other electronic resources.

Make sure to be connected to Eduroam. If you are off campus, you have to connect via VPN to access our e-resources.

Employees at Helse Bergen have access to UiB's electronic resources (with some exceptions) at the workplace/hospital network.

E-journals

To get an overview and direct links to electronic journals, use the «Journal Search» link
located in the Oria top menu, or simply search for the journal's title or ISSN in Oria.

Here is a tutorial on how to get access to resources (external video).
