Erasmus+ staff training mobility

Erasmus+ staff training mobility offers all employees at the University of Bergen the opportunity to develop their skills through a stay abroad. The aim is to strengthen quality, collaboration and internationalisation in higher education.

Main content

Erasmus+ staff training mobility is intended to support the academic and professional development of staff at the University of Bergen.

The stay should be based on active participation and provide opportunities to develop new skills, gain professional input and exchange experience with international colleagues. You are expected to share your experience with colleagues at UiB after your return.

For staff in academic positions, there are also dedicated Erasmus+ schemes for teaching mobility (link to information about Erasmus+ teaching mobility.)

What should the stay include?

A training mobility period may consist of activities such as job shadowing, participation in courses or workshops, or a “Staff Training Week”. You may also take part in seminars or conferences, provided they have a clear learning component and you participate actively.

The scheme is not intended for events where you attend only as a passive participant, or for travel primarily aimed at establishing or maintaining partnerships. You also cannot apply for Erasmus+ staff training mobility for a purely research stay.

Where can you go?

The stay can take place at another university, or in a company or organisation offering relevant training.

Erasmus+ covers EU Member States as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Serbia and Türkiye. The United Kingdom will rejoin Erasmus+ from 2027, and it will only be possible to apply for funding for stays there from autumn 2027.

You may travel to both partner institutions and non-partner institutions. If you choose a destination without an agreement, you must provide a clear justification. Stays at CHARM-EU partner institutions are prioritised.

An overview of exchange agreements is available here:

If you are planning a stay outside the Erasmus+ countries, you should contact the International Centre at an early stage.

Formal requirements

The stay must last at least two days (excluding travel days) and may last up to two months. UiB normally provides funding for up to five working days.

You must have approval from your immediate line manager before applying. Before the stay begins, a mobility agreement (including objectives and expected outcomes) and a programme for the stay must be in place.

How to apply

You can either submit a short application together with a mobility agreement, or submit a completed Mobility Agreement only.

In your application, you should briefly explain why you have chosen the host institution, particularly if it is not a partner institution. You may also indicate whether you are planning a green journey, and how this will be carried out.

The application should be submitted via WebSak and filed in your electronic personnel record. Case officer: Signe Knappskog.
