One-day Course: Radiation Protection

The one-day Radiation Protection course provides a basic introduction to regulations, roles and responsibilities, and key principles for the safe use of radiation sources at the University of Bergen (UiB). The course is mandatory for several user groups and is designed to help participants meet current competence requirements in radiation protection. It also provides knowledge of radiation doses, risk factors, and the use of protective equipment.

Target Group

Mandatory for those who have not previously completed a radiation protection course at UiB:

• Local Radiation Protection Coordinators
• Employees and academic supervisors/professional advisers awaiting the 3-day Radiation Protection Course
• PhD and Master's students who will use radiation sources for a limited period

Other relevant participants:

• HSE Coordinators
• Safety Representatives
• Employees with delegated HSE responsibilities

Course Content

The course provides an introduction to:

• Current legislation and regulations
• Roles, responsibilities, and task distribution at UiB
• Radiation doses
• Principles for reducing radiation exposure
• Risk factors associated with radiation work
• Use of protective equipment

Learning Objective

Users of radiation sources and others with responsibilities and tasks related to radiation protection at UiB shall meet the competence requirements set out in applicable laws and regulations.
