Bio by the speaker:

I am a recently graduated Marine Engineer that is passionate about the relation between data/optimisations and how to apply those in the maritime context. This is why I am now working as a data scientist/engineer at Nortech AI, where I aim to collect, and make sense out of data of maritime assets.

Abstract:

As machine learning and data science is become more and more accessible for anybody, both practical and theoretical knowledge of the analysed systems remains important. In this talk, I will explore how combining data science and data engineering with engineering expertise can enhance data cleaning, validation, and finally asset modelling.

We will talk about a grey-box approach to track power consumption on ships and demonstrate how this method can correct for various external influences. Starting from the ground up with the data collection and data-pipeline necessary to be able to make such models. I hope to give some insights into both a practical data science application and its relation with real-life.
