Semester start at the Faculty of Law

We are so pleased to still be able to welcome exchange students to the University of Bergen this spring, and we would like to invite all new international law students to an information meeting at the Faculty of Law on Friday 15th January. Below you will find more information about the start of the semester.

The official semster dates for the spring semester is 4th January to 20th June.

We do realise that due to the holiday period as well as the ongoing pandemic and quarantine rules it is not likely that you will be able to arrive during the first week. Neither is it necessary.

Because of the atypical start to the semester and the fact that UiB cannot offer an in-person Welcome Programme for new international students during the first week, we have decided to postpone the start of the semester somewhat to make it easier and less stressful for you. The first event after the digital Welcome Programme hosted by UiB will be the Information Meeting for new international law students on the 15th January. It is sadly not possible to host this in-person as we hope to, but we will intead have a shorter and more information meeting on Zoom instead. This meeting is not mandatory but we hope of course to see as many of you as possible.

The start of your lectures will depend on which courses you have chosen, as the courses have different start dates. The schedules are now available in the online courses descriptions. We will do our best to record or stream at least the first lectures so that students in quarantine do not miss out on any of the teaching. Please note that we do not offer "distance exchange", meaning that you cannot remain in your home country while being a student at UiB, even if classes are made available online.

During the autumn semester we were able to offer in-person classes in all courses with in-house lecturers and we plan for and hope to do the same this semester. However, for now all teaching will be digital, at least until until the end of the month.

As you are all aware of, the situation can change (multiple times) during the semester, so nothing is absolute and we will need to adapt as we go along. We hope however that this gave you some answers and that you now know a little more about what to expect.

Please feel free to send us an email at law-incoming.jurfa@uib.no if you have any questions regarding your courses and the semester start at the Faculty of Law. For questions regarding acceptance letters, quarantine, off-campus regsitrations etc. please contact the International Team at UiB or Sammen (housing).
