2014 "SILENCED" TRAILER

Main content

Since 1917 has eleven whistleblowers been convicted for violating «The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act» in the United States, and over half of these have taken place under the Obama administration.

Why is there a dramatic increase of such cases in recent years? And who are these whistle-blowers? The documentary Silenced focuses on the US government's treatment of those who disclose classified information.

We meet John Kiriakou that revealed the use of torture as interrogation methods of the CIA; Jesselyn Radack who criticized the government's treatment of an American born Taliban soldier; and Thomas Drake, who alerted the NSA's illegal surveillance of US citizens. The film shows how a paranoid and unscrupulous defense of national security interests that emerged in the aftermath of 11 September. We'll see what these courageous individuals have had to sacrifice to notify injustice done in the name of justice - including work, family and their own freedom. How far are you willing to go to get the truth to light?

Introduction to the film will be held by professors Lise Rakner of Comparative Politics and Marit Skivenes of Public Administration.
