What implications could AI have on researchers' work? How should researchers approach the various aspects of AI, and finally: How can AI be used in the work of a researcher?

These were the questions on the agenda when the participants in the TMF-UiB Career Program met at Solstrand. The participants are all researchers who have been awarded a Starting Grant from the Trond Mohn Foundation. Over two days, they gained new insights into the topic of Artificial Intelligence in Research.

Rector Margareth Hagen and FIA Director Alette Gilhus Mykkeltvedt support this ambitious investment in research talents.

- With the generous contributions from the Trond Mohn Foundation, we have created a future-oriented career program," says Alette Gilhus Mykkeltvedt, Director of the Division of Research and Innovation.

We see this as a long-term investment in research talents

A Long-Term Investment

The Starting Grant scheme has recruited both national and international research talents to UiB. They are offered individual and collective activities, such as career planning, mentoring support, and study trips, as well as seminars on current topics, like this year’s AI seminar.

- We see this as a long-term investment in research talents, says Mykkeltvedt. The aim of the career program is to equip them for a career as top researchers.

Rector Margareth Hagen says that the career program provides researchers with unique opportunities to develop their careers.

- With the help of TMF Starting Grants, a total of 51 outstanding researchers have received exceptional opportunities and a strong start to their research careers.

The funds have had a lasting effect on UiB's capacity to conduct research of high international quality

Community and Development of Academic Environments

The researchers also become part of a community with other participants in the career program, fostering new interdisciplinary collaborations and synergies across faculties.

- Through the career program, they receive the tools they need to lead a research project and contribute to creating strong academic environments, says Hagen. The contributions from the Trond Mohn Foundation not only make a difference for the researchers receiving the grants, emphasizes Hagen.
