Ernst Sejersted Selmer (11 February 1920[1] – 8 November 2006) was a Norwegian mathematician, who worked in number theory, as well as a cryptologist. The Selmer group of an Abelian variety is named after him. His primary contributions to mathematics reside within the field of diophantine equations. He started working as a cryptologist during the Second World War; due to his work, Norway became a NATO superpower in the field of encryption. The Ernst Selmer International Workshop aimed to bring together international collaborators and friends of the Selmer Center to celebrate the 100-th anniversary of Prof. Ernst Sejersted Selmer. The event took place at the Hotel Union Geiranger between August 21 and August 27, 2022.
