Participants
We received more than 230 application within the deadline. A total of 48 people confirmed that they would participate in SMW-26.
In 2026, we were pleased to welcome 49 participants from 16 different countries. They came from CHARM-EU partner institutions, from universities we already know well, and from institutions with whom we have had little formal cooperation, so far. This mix was intentional. We want to strengthen what already exists, while remaining open to new perspectives, new ideas and new forms of collaboration.

Financial Services
The Division of Financial Services manages the procurement process in compliance with EU framework and regulations, with a strong focus on sustainable public procurement. Participants are expected to be willing to learn from colleagues across Europe and to share best practices, tools, and project experiences.
Providing financial services for externally funded projects is one of the Division’s core activities. Currently, funding from the European Union accounts for approximately € 20 million of a total annual budget of € 115 million for externally funded projects. UiB’s strategy aims to increase the volume of externally funded projects by prioritizing selected funding programmes and enhancing support for researchers in proposal development and strategic positioning.
In addition, the Division is responsible for payroll management, accounting, and financial controlling functions.
How can we better connect with young audiences through research communication?
The communication division at UiB works across media, social platforms, and events to share research with the public. In today’s fragmented media landscape, reaching younger audiences can be a challenge.
We’ve recently launched a project to explore how research can be presented in ways that will resonate with youth. During Staff Mobility Week, the team will share insights and discuss findings with others who are passionate about this topic.
We hereby invite communication professionals from research institutions across Europe to join the conversation—exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore new strategies for building trust and engagement with the next generation.
Staff Weeks for the Future
In 2026, the University of Bergen will host its 13th Staff Mobility Week (SMW) – and much has changed since our first week in 2010. One notable development is the rise of university alliances and the way they have shaped international collaboration in higher education.
This is an ideal moment to pause and reflect: What are we doing? Why are we doing it? And what should we keep or reconsider? Is there such a thing as a perfect staff week? How are other universities approaching this, and what innovative practices can we learn from them?
Do you have experience with staff training weeks, insights into how they work, or ideas for how they could evolve? If so, this is the group for you – we look forward to meeting you at UiB.
Welcoming international students
This week is all about sharing experiences and great ideas for how we can best welcome international students. The program includes engaging workshops and practical sessions on cultural awareness, student support, and digital tools.
You will get insights into UiB’s international strategy and exchange experiences with colleagues from across Europe. The goal is to build networks, gain new perspectives, and contribute to even better integration of international students.
We are looking for participants who work directly with the onboarding of new international students. Everyone must be able to share experiences and practices from their home institution. Based on this, the event offers a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from each other, and be inspired.
