Open Science Lunch: Going beyond publications

While publications are often visible in databases, other activities and open science outputs can remain difficult to discover. In this session, we will discuss opportunities for researchers to improve their visibility online through researcher profile services and social media.

Main content

Researcher profiles, such as ORCID and Google Scholar profiles, can enhance the visibility of people, projects and results - but it can be difficult to know which profiles to prioritise spending time on. In this session, we will compare some of these services and how they function to fulfill various needs, from visibility to author disambiguation, track record-keeping, and gathering open science outputs.

Social media is another important arena for showcasing research, and we will talk about this from a communication and dissemination point of view, touching upon questions such as which social media to use, what researchers might gain from investing time in social media, and how this can contribute to open science.

Participants: Caroline S. Armitage and Eli Heldaas Seland, senior academic librarians from the Bibliometrics group at Bergen University Library, and Jana Wilbricht, Head of Communications at Bergen Centre for Ethics and Priority Setting in Health (BCEPS).
