About the Course
How can we work safer and smarter?
HSE risk assessment and Safe Job Analysis (SJA) are tools that help us identify hazards before they become problems. This course provides practical and useful knowledge—whether you are a manager, HSE coordinator, safety delegate, researcher, technician, or any other employee performing work that may involve risk.
Why should you take this course?
- For managers: You are responsible for ensuring that HSE risk assessments are carried out. The course gives you an overview of legal requirements and UiB’s routines and shows you how to follow up in a simple and effective way.
- For employees: UiB is a workplace with a wide variety of tasks and a high degree of independence. This means employees often face situations where it is useful to assess risk—for example, in labs, fieldwork, and workshops. The course gives you knowledge and tools to make such assessments properly.
- SJA – a useful tool for everyone: Safe Job Analysis is a simple method for assessing HSE risk before starting a task that may involve risk. This could be anything from working with laboratory protocols, working at heights or in confined spaces, or collaborating across units and disciplines. You will learn how to use SJA to pause, think through hazards, and ensure the job is done safely.
You will learn:
- What the law requires—and what UiB expects.
- How to use UiB’s templates for HSE risk assessment and SJA.
- What “risk” really means, and how to assess probability and consequence.
- Practical exercises with cases.
