Special waste is hazardous waste, problematic waste, radioactive waste or explosive waste. UiB employees working at the Haukeland Universitetssykehus facilities, have waste managed differently than presented at the HSE-gateway. Haukeland Universitetssykehus have separate waste arrangement. Guidelines for handling and disposal of hazardous waste, problematic waste, radioactive waste and explosive waste
These guidelines shall ensure that waste generated at UiB is disposed of in a safe and proper manner.
All hazardous waste must be declared. UiB practices a zero discharge to drain. In other words, NO hazardous chemicals or environmentally harmful substances should be flushed into the sink.
Problematic waste is to be disposed in accordance to the university's guidelines and local procedures.

Ionising radiation sources must be disposed of in varying ways depending on the type of radiation source.
